Lenovo Vibe K5 Plus Brief Overview
Let’s have a brief overview of the smartphone:
Weight and thickness
Lenovo K5 measures 142x71x8mm and is quite average for a 5-incher. The smartphone weighs 142g which means that it is two grams lighter as compared to Xiaomi Redmi Note 3.
Also, the smartphone is about half a millimetre thinner than its Xiaomi Redmi counterpart.
Hardware and Design
The Lenovo Vibe K5 Plus is entirely made up of polycarbonate which is quite normal in this price range. Design is generic but quite simple! The smartphone’s back panel excellently mimics a satin metal finish. The top and bottom ends are painted a couple of shades darker, making them look like antenna bands on a metal case.
You can easily locate the camera module and single LED flash from the cutouts in top band. Below the lens, you can also see the secondary mic’s pinhole. In the bottom band there are two speaker grills and as many speakers underneath.
The cover is removable and comes off with everything: buttons, sides and all. Remove the back cover and you’ll see battery and card slots. There are three of them, two for microSIMs and a dedicated microSD compartment. Right below the battery, there’re two speakers.
Now flipping the phone around, you’ll notice FullHD 5-inch screen. The entire face of the phone is outlined by a shiny silver like metal, intended to protect the edges of the glass.
The bottom features the capacitive keys, which have icons etched in the white front panels. Above the display, there is an earpiece in the middle along with the front camera and a bunch of sensors on sides. On the right-side you’ll notice power button in the middle with the volume rocker above it. Left side is clean.
There’s nothing on the bottom except a mic pinhole, which means that the microUSB and located on the top. Overall, the device is beautifully designed and stylish.
The Lenovo Vibe K5 Plus packs a 2,750mAh battery, similar to the one featured in Lenovo Vibe K5. So it’s obvious to worry about Vibe K5 Plus’ battery life. But we can ensure that even if the K5 Plus is not a marathon runner, the results aren’t that bad.
Lenovo K5 Plus promise 69h standard battery life, with 9 hours battery life on web browsing and 8 hours during video playback. Moreover, the smartphone offers 32 hours of talk time on 3G voice calls which is only an hour lesser than the 33-hour talktime the Xiaomi Redmi 3 promise with its 4,100mAh battery.
The Lenovo Vibe K5 Plus runs on heavily customized Android 5.1 Lollipop OS often called Vibe OS by Lenovo. The interface is beautifully designed and will remind you more of K3 Note interface than the Vibe K4 Plus.
The default layout consists of a clock widget with date and a list of notifications. You can also see shortcuts for dialer and camera.
Just like all the droids coming from China, there is no app drawer. All the apps will reside on homescreens. New ones can be added with ease! Existing ones can be arranged! And the arbitrary ones can be set as home-home.
Also, there is a wide selection of themes available too, complete with icon packs, and these themes can completely change the look of your smartphone. Overall, the interface is awesome and you’ll definitely like it.
Lenovo Vibe K5 plus packs 13MP rear camera with maximum resolution of 4160×3120 pixels which looks decent. The lens has f/2.2 aperture. The camera guarantees you awesome clicks. Adding to the beauty, there is a 5 MP front cam suitable for all selfie lovers.
The Vibe K5 Plus is a dual-SIM smartphone that supports microSIMs in both slots. Both the SIMs is 2G capable, but only one can get 3G/4G treatment. LTE Cat. 4 guarantees the theoretical transfer speeds of 150Mbps for downloading and 50Mbps of uploading.
You’ll get Wi-Fi b/g/n with hotspot support, GPS with A-GPS, Bluetooth v4.1, and an FM radio receiver. There is no NFC or an infrared port. Let’s have a brief look at what the smartphone has got and where it needs improvement:
- Excellent user interface
- Sleek looks and beautifully designed hardware
- Best in class specs in a reasonable price
- Limited regional availability
- No Android Marshmallow
No doubt the smartphone lacks in many aspects. The storage space is limited! Also it runs on the same old Android 5.1 Lollipop. But still its best in its price range. The smartphone is beautifully designed and the user interface is excellent. So the smartphone offer much more than what you can expect in this price range.
Overall, the Lenovo Vibe K5 is a suitable smartphone for users who want to enjoy the best specifications in a limited budget.
