Sony’s prototype drone takes flight

Sony Drone

Sony has unveiled its drone prototype that looks like a miniature airplane. Company yesterday revealed the videos of the two prototypes, the AS-MCO1-p and AS-DTO1E ‘experimental machine’. The looks of DTO1-E are similar to a miniature airplane but it is able to take off and land vertically. Sony is developing this drone with a Tokyo-based robotics firm under its collab company ‘Aerosense’. The first prototype came from its new joint venture that Sony announced last month in cooperation with Japanese automation specialist ZMP ‘Aerosense’.

The UAV can fly continuously for two hours at a speed of 106 mph and can carry up to 22 pounds. The AS-MCO1-P is a quad-copter, lighter and much smaller in size. It is also loaded with a GPS, a camera and navigation system.

Sony plans to target business customers rather than gadget-buying public. Business customers will be able to use this for surveying, inspecting, measuring and observing. Aerosense is set to roll out these services early next year.
