Apple is reportedly planning to announce an update to its notebook lineup at its WorldWide Developers Conference (WWDC) in early June. According to reports, it’s expected that Apple to announce new MacBook and the MacBook Pro. Apart from this, the company is also planning to update its most affordable notebook, i.e. the MacBook Air.
Last year in the month of October, Apple just updated the MacBook Pro with a slimmer design in conjunction with a Touch Bar. Now, the MacBook Pro will get a faster Kaby Lake processor, an update from the Skylake processors in the existing machines. It’ll seem to be similar to the current model, adopting internal updates only.
Furthermore, Apple has been working on a custom-designed ARM chip which could handle low-power features in the MacBook Pro. However, the chip may not be ready for June MacBook Pro update.
Apple’s MacBook, last updated in April 2016, will get a refreshed processor, possibly to be in the Kaby Lake family.
Apple has not refreshed its MacBook Air since March of 2015. It has been phasing it out in support of MacBook and MacBook Pro, both of which are now thinner as compared to the Air model. On the other hand, one of the reports said that the company has also considered refreshing it with an updated processor that means the MacBook Air could stick around for at least further few years as a low-cost notebook option. Due to the easy affordability of MacBook Air, its sales remain surprisingly strong.
What’s more, it’s possible to announce the new notebooks at Apple’s June 5 keynote, which is likely to be kicked off at 10:00 AM Pacific Time. Rumors suggest that Apple will also introduce other hardware, among them a long-rumored 10.5-inch iPad Pro and a new Siri speaker.
In today’s report, there is no mention of Apple’s desktop machines, i.e. iMac or Mac mini that have not been updated for some time. The company last updated the iMac in October 2015, a span of 580 days. Moreover, it has been around 940 days when the Mac mini was last updated in October 2014.
Apart from Apple to announce new MacBook, the company is working on new iMac models, expecting to launch later this year. Apple says updated iMacs are geared, but it’s not clear when the machines will introduce.
