Talking about iOS, Apple has introduced the Blue Light Filter feature dubbed as Night Shift Mode with iOS 9.3. According to Apple, Night Shift automatically changes the color of your phone’s display to the warmer end of the color spectrum after dark. This may help you get a better sleep at night. While browsing the web at night, you’ll an exposure to blue light and consequently, it affects your sleep and causes other health problems. However, you can reduce the effect of late night light exposure by changing the dark color tone to warmer tones.
Once you’ll install and activate your iPhone after upgrading to iOS 9.3, you can activate the blue light filter, or enable Night Shift mode on your device. The new Night Shift mode adjusts the color temperature of your iPhone’s screen so that the device will have candle-lit tint instead of the crisp blue light, which is more stimulating to your brain. While enabling Night Shift mode on your iPhone or iPad, it feels natural and comfortable on eyes.
To activate Night Shift mode on iOS, all you need to do is just swipe up from the bottom of your device’s screen to open the Control Center and then, tap on the new Night Shift button. You’ll get a popup window that includes two options, namely Turn On Until 7 AM and Schedule Setting. Either you tap on the Turn On Until 7 AM option to see what Night Shift looks like, or you can choose the Schedule Settings option to go to the Night Shift settings.
You can also access the Night Shift settings by navigating to the Settings menu > Display & Brightness > Night Shift.
Here, you can choose Scheduled to select your schedule or Manually Enabled to manually turn it on accordingly. Just toggle the Manually Enabled switch to ON position for the rest of the day and then, turn it off the next morning.
Now, let’s move on to the scheduling feature. Just tap on Scheduled and you’ll get a pre-populated schedule window. You need to tap on it to make necessary changes.
You can configure Night Shift mode to automatically deactivate when the sun rises and activate when the sun sets. You can also set your own schedule based on the day time. Once you’re done, just tap on the blue Night Shift button at the upper-left side to go back to the settings menu.
This way, you can adjust the warmth of the phone’s screen by using the slider at the bottom of the Night Shift menu. While tapping on the Night Shift slider, you’ll get to know about what level of warmth will look like when Night Shift turns on.
