YouTube has come a long way over the years at curating content on the basis of our viewing habits. Whenever you open the home page of the streaming service, you see a blend of channels you’re subscribed to and recommendations depending upon your search history. Let’s be real – it can be the most annoying feature of YouTube, especially when you see suggestions of channels you’re not interested in. Sensing this need, we’ve come up with a tutorial to tell you how to block YouTube video channels.
Block YouTube Video Channels
There are two ways to block video channels on YouTube. The first method requires you to tinker with the settings of the streaming service while the second way requires you to use a third-party extension. Let’s discuss both the methods in details one by one.
Control What Appears on Your YouTube Home Page
Firstly, it’s worth trying the ‘in-house’ method of the movie streaming app to partially block YouTube videos. The home page shows all types of videos it considers you’re interested in, ranging from recent uploads on frequently-visited channels to ‘recommended’ videos based on your search history as well as viewing habits. However, these suggestions may also include videos you don’t want at all.
In order to block YouTube videos from certain channels from appearing in your recommended feed, click on the three-dotted menu icon next to the title of a video on your YouTube home page. Afterward, click on the Not Interested option. Now, you can select multiple reasons why you aren’t interested in a video. In case you select the I’m not interested in this channel option, videos from this channel will stop appearing in your recommended feed.
It’s worth notable that this will only block it from your YouTube home page, not from showing in search results. In case you want to block YouTube video channels completely, opt for the second method given below.
Use Video Blocker
The extension not only allows you to block YouTube channels but also gives you a full control over what type of channels you want to appear on your home page. Here’s how to use it to get the job done.
For demonstration purposes, we’ll be using the extension on Chrome, although the steps remain the same for Opera and Firefox as well. As soon as you see a video from a channel you don’t like, right-click on it and select the Block videos from this channel option. That’s it! Now, all videos from that channel will immediately be disappeared from your recommendations and even from your search history.
But what if you want to block a particular type of videos and channels? We’ve got you covered. Here’s how to do so.

Block Specific Types of Videos and Channels
Video Blocker also allows you to manually add channels and keywords to block all channels as well as videos containing those words. To get started, click on the Video Blocker extension button on your browser and navigate to the Add section. Here, you’ll be presented with three ways to block particular YouTube videos and channels:
- Channel Item: If you select this option, you’ll need to enter the exact full name (case sensitive) of the channel you want to block videos from
- Wildcard: It’s exactly the same as the Channel Item option, but it’s not case sensitive. Any words you enter here will be searched and that channel will be blocked if the words match. This is the perfect option to block multiple channels of the same type
- Keyword: This option filters all videos containing a specific keyword (not case sensitive). All you need to do is enter the keyword and Video Blocker will filter all recommendations and searches containing that word in any order
Video Blocker is a password-protected extension, meaning you can add a password to it for stopping other users from adding or removing channels from the block list. However, you can’t use this feature in Opera and Firefox as it’s only available in Chrome.
Click on the Video Blocker extension icon and select the Settings option. You can add a password to protect it at the bottom of the settings.
Apart from password protection, Video Blocker even enables you to import and export your block list so you can use the extension on any PC without losing your block list.
