At Apple’s WWDC event back in June, Tim Cook had announced that Amazon Prime Video for Apple TV would be coming later this year. Now, with just a few weeks to spare in 2017, the streaming service is finally available on Apple TV. The app has long been accessible on other set-top boxes and even comes built-in to modern TVs, so it’s great to see Amazon’s catalog of movies and TV shows accessible directly on Apple TV.
The new update brings the Amazon Prime Video app to version 5.0 and adds support for the iPhone X and Universal Search. The movie streaming app is not available for all Apple TV devices: it provides support for only third- and fourth-generation models and the latest Apple TV 4K. Users need to install the tvOS version to use the app.
Starting today, users across the planet can use Amazon Prime Video for Apple TV to stream high-quality and critically acclaimed titles including Prime Original Series and Movies. Apart from movies and TV shows, it lets you watch live sports and provides a flawless way to keep up to date with your favorite teams and games in real time.
In case you’re a regular user of the Prime Video app on your iOS device or another platform like a console, you’ll find the interface quite familiar. The interface is well organized into different sections such as Movies, Video Library, Originals, Kids, TV, and more.
The new Amazon Prime Video for Apple TV comes with a copious number of TV shows and movies such as ‘The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel’ and ‘The Big Sick’. The company has promised to add more options on a regular basis. The app requires an Amazon Prime subscription, priced at $99 per year or $10.99 per month.
Amazon’s streaming service also offers a broad array of award-winning kids content such as Tumble Leaf, The Snowy Day, and If You Give a Mouse a Cookie. It further extends the catalog of movies and TV shows available in 4K HDR on Apple TV 4K.
You can add your favorite shows and videos to your Watchlist, which is synced across all of your devices. The app allows you to search for Amazon content by using the Apple TV’s Siri Remote. What stands out it from the rest is that you can get information about each show and movie using Amazon’s X-ray feature.
Amazon is rolling out the app for Apple TV in more than 100 countries. It comes with Siri search feature, letting you do searches like ‘find new movies in 4K’ or enhance existing searches by actor, quality, genre, time period, and more.
