Create an Account for Your Child
Microsoft enables you to make a separate account for children that can be managed by you. Once you sign into your own Microsoft account on your kid’s laptop, navigate to the Settings > Accounts > Family & other users section and click on the Add a Family Member option to set up Windows 10 laptop for kids.
Afterward, select the Add a Child option and click on the blue link that reads The person I want to add doesn’t have an email address to create an account if your child doesn’t already have a Microsoft account.
Once you create an account for your kid, log in to your account and provide your credit card information for verification. Next, you have to agree to a $0.50 charge, which Microsoft will donate to charity. After making this small charitable donation, your child’s account will no longer be listed as ‘pending’ on the Family & other people page in Settings. You can now start setting parental controls on your kid’s Windows 10 laptop.

Family Safety First
In the Settings > Accounts > Family & other users section, you’ll see a link namely Manage family settings online below your accounts in the Your Family section. Clicking on this link will take you to Microsoft’s Family Settings website. Ensure that you log into your own account on this site. In case you’re logged into your child’s account, you won’t be able to access the family settings.
Once you sign in to your own account, click on the Family option in the top-right corner to view your family members. Under your kid’s account, you’ll be presented with four options namely Activity, Screen Time, Content Restrictions, and Spending. You need to customize these four options to set up Windows 10 laptop for kids.
For Activity, the setup process is quite simple. Simply toggle on Activity reporting, which gives you an overview of searches and web history of your kid along with games and apps he/she has made use of. You can see this information on the Activity page. In case you want to get a weekly report emailed to you, merely click on a toggle switch.
The Screen Time option lets you set time limits for the device registered to your kid’s account. In case your child attempts to use the device outside the time window you set, he/she will not be able to sign into their account. Your kid will be asked to either sign into a different account or shut down the laptop or PC.
For Content Restrictions, parents can set an age restriction for apps, games, media, as well as for web browsing. You can blacklist websites that you don’t want your child to access or you can create a whitelist by allowing access to safe websites.
Next, for Spending, you can deposit a digital allowance to your child’s account which he/she can use to purchase apps or games from the Microsoft Store.
In this way, you can set up Windows 10 laptop for kids. Make sure not to skip any step while giving the laptop or PC to your kid.
