Samsung is all set to launch its Galaxy S9 and S9 Plus at Mobile World Congress, which will start on February 26. The devices are reportedly hitting store shelves starting March 16. What are you expecting from these two flagships? Great design, upgraded cameras, powerful processor, and much more, right? Well, based on a series of Galaxy S9 leaked specs, here’s what you should expect from the device. Though these specs are by no means final, they provide a big picture of what to expect from Samsung. Scroll down to read more.
Galaxy S9 Leaked Specs
Design and Display
The Galaxy S9 and S9 Plus may look similar to their predecessors namely Galaxy S8 and S8 Plus. However, Samsung may move the fingerprint scanner beneath the camera lens. The two devices are anticipated to sport similar Super AMOLED panels at 5.8 inches and 6.2 inches respectively. It has been also rumored that Samsung can enhance the brightness along with the color accuracy on the screens.
According to the Galaxy S9 leaked specs, the upcoming smartphone will boast a SuperSpeed Dual Pixel camera with a 12MP resolution. Even more interesting, the S9 will evidently feature two rated apertures: f/1.5 and f/2.4. The phone will kick in the f/1.5 aperture when you’re capturing pictures in low light. On the other hand, the f/2.4 aperture will allow the device to have a wider depth of field.
On the contrary, Samsung Galaxy S9 Plus will reportedly incorporate the second lens, offering a 2x optical zoom and portrait mode-style shots just like the Galaxy Note 8. Apart from this, you should expect a Live Focus feature that allows you to customize how much of a blur effect you fancy in the background.
CPU, RAM, and Storage
Samsung Galaxy S9 leaked specs indicate that the smartphones will come with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of storage standard. A microSD card slot should still be on board for expansion.
The flagship devices will boast the Snapdragon 845 processor. The CPU will only be up to 25% faster than the Snapdragon 835 chip in the Galaxy S8, but it will also endow users with lots of other benefits. Also, the 845 chip enables better HDR photos, which should let the S9 better compete with Google Pixel 2.
Stereo Audio and Headphone Jack
Regardless of the Galaxy S9 leaked specs that Samsung might be ditching the headphone jack for new phones, more recent reports suggest Samsung keeping it around. The South Korean electronics giant has already demonstrated with the S8 that it could offer an IP68 water-resistant design together with a 3.5mm jack and we don’t figure out why the company would mess with that formula as the iPhone 8, iPhone 8 Plus, and iPhone X all lack a jack.
On the audio front, the Galaxy S9 and S9+ will feature stereo speakers, which will reportedly be powered by AKG.
Coming to the battery life, the S9 and S9+ will likely come packed with the same size batteries as their predecessors, but they should still be able to last longer on a charge. That’s because Qualcomm guarantees that the GPU in the Snapdragon 845 processor possesses 30% better power efficiency.
It’s not wrong to say that the Bixby assistant on the Galaxy S8 didn’t take the world by storm. If truth be told, many looked for Samsung to let users re-map the Bixby button to another function. However, it appears that the Galaxy S9 should do a better job of amalgamating Bixby’s AI into the overall user interface.
At first glance, the Galaxy S9 leaked specs look similar to that of its predecessor. However, Samsung doesn’t need to make deep-seated amendments. A much-enhanced camera, faster processor, smarter software, beefier audio, and longer battery life are enough to help Samsung retain the title of the best Android phone maker and give a head-to-head competition to iPhone X.
