Losing your smartphone is the bad…really bad, but what’s worse is that it has all your sensitive data in it. Even the thought of somebody else using your device is what scares to the core. Let’s not fret anymore! We’ve got your back. Walk through this how-to article to learn how you can delete data from stolen phone to keep your personal data safe from unauthorized access.

Before proceeding to the steps for deleting your data from an Android device, take a few precautions to keep your private data safe. Set a strong pattern or PIN lock. Also, avoid storing your private data on a microSD card as the remote wiping apps cannot delete such data. Store your data in the cloud and whenever you lose your device, immediately access some other device or computer and sign out all account sessions from your device.

Prepare your Android Device

If you think you will need to wipe your private data from your stolen or lost smartphone in future, you must prepare in advance. While you still have your device with you, install Find My Device in it, and keep it enabled all the time. Here’s how to do this:

  • Launch the Play Store
  • Download the Find My Device app
  • Now, head to the Google Settings and tap Security
  • Under the Security Status head, tap Find My Device
  • Make sure you’ve got Find My Device enabled
  • Allow the app to access your phone’s location

The app is all set to save your data from any possible extortion in future.

If you have an old Android phone, you can still use this app’s older version, Android Device Manager to safeguard your device. All you need to do is

  • Open Google Settings on your Android device
  • Navigate to the bottom and tap Android Device Manager
  • Now enable two options; “Remotely locate this device” and “Remote lock and erase

All done, you can now rest assured as Android Device Manager will take care of your data on your stolen device.

Remotely Delete Data from Stolen Phone

You wouldn’t want to come on this but if you’ve lost your device, you will have to do this. First off, contact your network support and get your SIM card disabled. Now, immediately get into the action of wiping your data from your stolen phone. To do this, access Find My Device from some other Android device or click here to use the website. Sign into your account and you’ll see that Find My Device has already begun locating your device.

If your lost phone is switched on, Find My Device will give you three options. You can ring it, change the lock, or wipe the data. Before moving on to the last option, make sure your phone’s really lost. Look at its location on Google Maps and if it’s near, give your phone a full-volume ring.

Alternately, you can change the lock too and insert a message to show it to the person who’s got on a lost device.

If these things don’t work, you can finally dare to delete data from stolen phone. This is like a factory reset but doesn’t wipe out data from your SD card. It will remove your entire phone’s settings, your photos, videos, music, and apps.

If you want to prevent others from peeping into your private life without your wish, you must ensure your data doesn’t fall into anyone’s hands. For that, you need to delete data from stolen phone.
