Facebook Stories Adds Emoji Reactions and Group Chat to the Service

Facebook Stories adds new features to the service among which group chat and emoji reactions are prominent. Is this again another attempt to compete with the rival app Snapchat?

When the Facebook borrowed stories feature from Snapchat, it was certain to take it to a new height. But it didn’t happen the way Facebook imagined. While Facebook was successful in popularizing the concept on its owned apps, Instagram and WhatsApp, the company failed in terms of its own main app.

Both Instagram and WhatsApp enjoy 300mn and 450mn users, respectively for Stories feature. This beats Snapchat’s 191mn user base for the same. Looking at the Facebook app, the company admitted it couldn’t attract more than 150 users for this Snapchat-like feature.

However, the social network giant has not given up yet. It has constantly been trying its hands on various new features. With the same motif, Facebook Stories has been included with some new features. On Wednesday, Facebook announced group chats, emoji reactions, and the ability to view a messenger reply without leaving Facebook Stories.

Users can now post a series of ephemeral pictures and videos which will automatically get deleted after 24 hours. There’s more. You will now be able to include others while replying to someone’s Story. It will begin a new group thread on Facebook’s chat app, Messenger. Besides, you won’t have to leave the story to check your Messenger replies.

In addition to these, there’s another feature added to the service which allows you to reply to Facebook Stories with the familiar emojis of “love”, “like”, and “sad” you see on the Facebook app.

Facebook’s constant toiling to come up with new features every now and then conveys that the company has not yet lost its enthusiasm for the future of Facebook Stories. Despite the fact Facebook’s app enjoys way more popularity than Snapchat could gather to date, the latter platform is better with its “Stories” feature. Facebook will really have to struggle hard to get ahead of Snapchat’s Stories feature.
